Loan report- Toral scores; Wellington called up by Brazil U21s

Jon Toral came off the bench to score his first professional goal with a neat finish, but it couldn’t stop Brentford from losing 3-1 to Bolton Wanderers.

Carl Jenkinson played the entirety of West Ham United’s 2-1 win over Manchester City. Jenkinson has settled in well at West Ham, and appears suited to their style of play which favours attack-minded full-backs.

Benik Afobe had a shot cleared off the line as MK Dons were held to a goalless draw by Doncaster Rovers. Afobe replaced Will Grigg after 68 minutes.

Ryo started and played 57 minutes as Twente were beaten 2-1 by Excelsior.

Wellington was one of Almeria’s more impressive players as they lost 1-0 to Athletic Bilbao. This week the winger was called up to the Brazilian U21 squad.

Jack Jebb made his first start for Stevenage and played 71 minutes of their 1-0 victory over Burton Albion.

Kristoffer Olsson was again an un-used substitute for Midtjylland, this time as they drew 1-1 with SonderjykE, but he did score for their reserve team in midweek.

Austin Lipman was an un-used substitute as Boreham Wood were beaten 2-1 by Woking in the FA Cup 4th Qualifying Round.

  1. Delighted with the progress of Wellington, Afobe, and Jenkinson. Wonder what the problem is with Olsson and game time… #COYG

  2. Jeorge, I understand that Wellington Silva is under contract until June 2018…
Assuming that that is correct, and seeing that he seems to be maturing, I wonder, do you think that he has any future at Arsenal?
And if so, do you think that he could join us properly next season?

    1. Thing is if wellington joins us next season he will have to take one of the 25 man squad places as he is 93 born. If you look at the squad now who would you leave out? Bearing in mind that as it stands we desperately need another defender and a DM so would have to leave out 2 already. plus the likes of podolski and campbell are already hardly playing and that’s with Walcott and gnabry yet to feature and up to 12 players being out injured or suspended for some games

      1. Not many LW options, with Santi, Podolski and Ox as our main LW options, two of which are very likely to be gone in a few years (possibly sooner for Podolski). Plus the movement of a few of our midfielders (Rosicky, likely Coquelin, sadly) and a likely move to CF for both Campbell and Sanchez.

        There will be space.

  3. I think I prefer chambers as a centreback or DM. In hindsight, with debuchy getting injured I think I would have preferred jenkinson staying rather than going on loan. I think jenkinson has the edge on pace over chambers but I think chambers is a more tenacious tackler.
