Magnificent Mavididi scores hat-trick as Arsenal U18s beat Norwich

U18 Premier League- Game 4

Norwich City 0 Arsenal 3 (Mavididi 23, 50 (pen), 83)

Stephy Mavididi scored a hat-trick as Arsenal U18s comfortably dispatched of Norwich City with a 3-0 win yesterday morning.

Having opened the scoring midway through the first-half, Mavididi later found the net from the penalty spot before finishing well again with seven minutes remaining. The first-year scholar has now scored seven goals in his first four games and could be involved when the U19s take on Borussia Dortmund in the UEFA Youth League next week.

In a side primarily composed of first-years, Portuguese youth international Jonatas Centeno made his first appearance of the season at right-back, whilst Josh Vickers featured in goal as an over-age player. Chris Willock also returned to the fold having missed out last week due to international duty.

Arsenal are at home to Reading next week. Frans De Kat’s side sit top of the table having taken nine points out of a possible twelve so far this campaign.

  1. Top of both tables! Amazing the improvement in just a few a weeks and it must do wonders for the players’ morale.

Can you give us an idea of the likely line-up v. BVB?

Also what day and what time is the game and is there anywhere we’ll be able to follow it – text commentary? – and watch the highlights after?

  2. First caught my eye with the way he took a goal against Chelsea last year.

Always looked sharp enough on the highlights to leave me a bit surprised he wasn’t involved with England squads with Willock and Hinds, and then, since that youth tournament in Italy last year, he started to really fly.

For a club who hasn’t successfully brought through an English striker since Kevin Campbell, things are really looking good on that front at the moment.

Need to be careful though- if Mavididi keeps up this scoring rate the oil and gas men will start waving their grubby dollars at him.

  3. Ever since I saw him at the singapore tournament I have thought he looked good but wasn’t sure how good. He looks really promising but still only like 4 games so far and only like 30sec on the highlights. If he can stay consistent on a high level he will be playing for the U21 soon
