U21 players Chuba Akpom, Hector Bellerin, Isaac Hayden, Ignasi Miquel, Damian Martinez and Matt Macey have joined the first-team squad for their training camp in Austria this week.

New signings Mathieu Debuchy and Calum Chambers also participated in their first training session with the team this morning, although Alexis Sanchez is still awaiting his visa.

In addition, Yaya Sanogo and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, who missed the trip to New York due to fitness reasons, have both reconvened with the squad, whilst Olivier Giroud and Laurent Koscielny have returned following their World Cup exploits. Joel Campbell is also back at Arsenal as he hopes to earn a place in the squad for the new campaign.

Thomas Vermaelen, who has been linked with a move away from the club, is still absent, whilst the World Cup-winning trio of Per Mertesacker, Lukas Podolski and Mesut Ozil are not due to return to training until August 11th, meaning they will miss the start of the domestic campaign.

Kristoffer Olsson and Jon Toral, who had been part of the senior team’s preparations until now, were left in England and will go back to training with the U21 squad.

Gedion Zelalem travelled, but it appears that Carl Jenkinson was left out. Theo Walcott, Serge Gnabry and Ryo are all still injured.

  1. Any idea if jenkinson, coquelin, miquel, ryo and gnabry are involved in austria?

Must be goodbye for vermaelen, unless he is injured?

Still trying to find out if campbell and ryo are homegrown or non-homegrown?

    1. Why would they be HG players? I’m lifelong Gunner from Finland and knowledge in this topic is based only for football manager games, but both have had long term loans abroad at least one year. Campbell havent even spent whole pre season with arsenal so hard to believe why he would classified as HG. That doesn’t make sense for the whole rule of training player inside England.

Was Chambers wearing number 5 in his training kit? I watched video from Arsenal.com. If so, the captain is leaving.

And keep up the good work Jeorge. Have been following your blog for years but this is the first time I am participating to the conversation.

      1. That’s why I’m asking, I am sure I read that signing for a team then going on loan still counts towards a homegrown status.

        I could be wrong?

Chambers wore 5 in theorning session on the first day, but has worn 21 in the 3 subsequent sessions. One of gibbs or chamberlain missed today’s session. Like BT I am struggling to work out which one is missing from the squad pic.

  2. Can I ask how big is it getting to go to the Austria camp? I guess some players are there to make up the numbers but what about Chuba? Does he have a chance to make it?

    1. Preseason will NEVER be a good indication of how good he really is when it matters. We will see in EPL and CC if he got what it takes if he stays. Wenger said goals is what matter for a striker. So far Akpom has scored 0 goals. He has looked good though. I’m pretty sure he will go on loan unless he can be very very impressive in emirates cup and in training.

  3. So we now sit at 25 players born 1992.

I think bellerin, and hayden can benefit from jenkinson departure. As well as jenkinson getting a season under his belt. Hope he does really well at West Ham.

So any more departures? – vermaelen, miquel, coquelin, arteta, podolski, cazorla, ryo, campbell, martinez. I can’t see all those 9 being at the club this season, I really hope santi, Joel and poldi stay. But if we are to sign one or two more big names, it could be a couple of big names leaving. Hope I’m wrong.
