Alex Iwobi celebrated signing his first professional contract by scoring the winner as Arsenal U21s beat Cambridge United 2-1 in a charity match this evening.
Arsenal took the lead through the prolific Chuba Akpom, but Cambridge equalised courtesy of a long-range effort from Andy Pugh. Iwobi, on as a substitute, then settled the game by finishing well with ten minutes remaining. Goalkeeper Josh Vickers made an excellent save late on to preserve Arsenal’s lead.
Arsenal named a strong side, with Isaac Hayden and Gedion Zelalem starting, whilst Zach Fagan returned for his first game since completing his frustrating loan spell at Boreham Wood.
subs: Vickers, Smith, Crowley, Jebb, Kamara, Lipman, Iwobi, Dawkins.
