Loan report- Wellington only Arsenal youngster to feature

Wellington completed 79 minutes as Real Murcia drew 0-0 with Sporting. The Brazilian had a shot saved and also delivered some dangerous crosses before being withdrawn.

Johan Djourou was an un-used substitute as Hamburg lost 3-1 to Wolfsburg.

Benik Afobe and Damian Martinez watched from the bench as Sheffield Wednesday beat Bournemouth 4-2 on Friday.

Daniel Boateng was an un-used substitute as Hibernian lost 2-0 to St Mirren.

Francis Coquelin was not involved as Freiburg lost 4-2 to Borussia Monchengladbach. Former Arsenal player Havard Nordtveit scored for the visitors.

Chuks Aneke missed Crewe Alexandra’s 3-1 victory over Shrewsbury Town through suspension.

Joel Campbell‘s loan spell with Olympiacos is complete. The winger played his final match for his temporary side in the 1-0 loss to PAOK in the Greek Cup last week.

Ju-Young Park was again not part of Watford’s matchday squad as they beat Ipswich Town 3-1. Similarly, Ignasi Miquel was not involved as Leicester City beat QPR 1-0.

Zach Fagan again didn’t feature as Boreham Wood lost 1-0 to Hayes & Yeading. The centre-back will officially return to Arsenal on Saturday. Josh Vickers, meanwhile, wasn’t involved as Canvey Island lost 2-0 to Thamesmead Town.

  1. Hi Jeorge, do you think Joel will head back to Arsenal now the Greek season has finished, with a view to maintaining fitness ahead of the world cup?

    1. I think he’ll probably be given a few weeks off first having played so many matches this season.

  2. Hi Jeorge,
What are Wellington’s chances of featuring at the next pre-season and maybe even making it? Is it as hopeless as everyone says?

  3. Hey jeorge, what are wellington’s attributes? Because some say his a good dribbler and really fast. However i didn’t see these attributes when i watched him play.

  4. Fair point. No shame in having both either. Campbell seems more of a striker type, like Theo, likes being in front of the ball and getting behind the defence (from the little I’ve seen) and we need more like him (only Theo currently).

Yet equally, we need more of the type that actually aims to dribble past his man and be very direct. Since we lost Gervinho, we don’t really have anyone like that in the squad like that anymore (Ox used to ne like that for Saints and still shows glimpses of that, but Wenger seems to be changing him into an identikit ball player type). Wellington fits that mould (once again, from the little I’ve seen).

Such an enigma. Every time I’ve seen him play for our academy, he seems a cut above everyone else. Yet here is in the Segunda Division and only recently getting starts.

Would love a write up about him when the season ends, if possible please Jeorge.
