Loan report- Wellington scores twice; Aneke sent off

Wellington delivered an excellent performance as Murcia beat Lugo 3-1. The Brazilian scored twice before being withdrawn in the 84th minute. This was the first game in which the 21 year old has found the net this season, but he has certainly impressed in recent weeks since being elevated into the starting line-up.

Chuks Aneke was sent off in first-half stoppage time for elbowing Richard Stearman as Crewe Alexandra lost 2-0 to Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Joel Campbell started and was booked as Olympiacos beat Apollon Smirnis 1-0 in their final league fixture of the season.

Benik Afobe played the final eleven minutes and was booked during Sheffield Wednesday’s dramatic 3-3 draw with Blackburn Rovers. Goalkeeper Damian Martinez was an un-used substitute.

Johan Djourou played the whole game as Hamburg lost 2-1 to his former loan side Hannover, whilst Francis Coquelin wasn’t involved in Freiburg’s 2-0 win over Braunschweig.

Ju-Young Park was again not involved as Watford drew 2-2 with Millwall. Ignasi Miquel is unlikely to be involved when Leicester City take on Reading tomorrow night.

Injury meant that Zach Fagan didn’t feature in Boreham Wood’s 2-1 defeat to Whitehawk. The centre-back is set to return to Arsenal later this month. Josh Vickers didn’t feature in Canvey Island’s goalless draw with Hendon.

Daniel Boateng‘s Hibernian side didn’t have a fixture this weekend.

  1. Has Arsene been keeping Wellington Silva in hiding the last 3 years? The teams we sent him to have been low key, very low key, yet he has shown glimpses of absolute brilliance. He’s 21 now, with work permit in hand. Could he be an Ace up Arsene’s sleeve next season?

  2. Jorge, do you know if Wellington is going to apply for Spanish citizenship which would automatically qualify to play in UK?
Am I wrong in thinking that despite his recent improvement, he has absolutely no chance of making it here next season (even as a fringe player)?
Any news on how Ryo rehabilitation is progression? Fit to play next season or fit to be sold in the summer?

    1. Wellington should get a work permit in the Summer but I’m not sure if he’ll be given a chance with Arsenal. Ryo will probably be back in time for the start of the season, but will most likely go on loan during the final year of his contract.

      1. shame about ryo…i think wenger has mismanaged him personally…to see him play with no inhibition and absolutely destroy the dutch league and then crumble after arsene wenger got hold of him is really disappointing…wenger got him focusing too much on his link-up play and he lost confidence in his own game…he’s an outlet player…if he was given a free pass like walcott was at the same age to just focus on attacking and crossing and getting shots off, he would be better off now, i think.

  3. Considering Pedro Botelho’s fate after his Spanish loans people should not dream of a Wellington return to Arsenal. Botelho actually even started for Liga Primera sides whereas Wellington has just been introduced to a second-tier team’s starting 11.
Even more, when you think that Joel Campbell’s chances of playing for Arsenal are probably 50/50 at best, it tells you all you need to know about where Wellington might be on the list realistically.

    1. Yes but when it came down to it Botelho was a bit of a knob, and basically threw it away. I imagine Wellington and Campbell will do a pre-season with Arsenal, and if spectacular get an opportunity, if not go on their way.

      1. I agree with you. Wellington looks like he has something special, which was the reason AW went after him. But in the current setup I think you have to have the right attitude which is something I doubt hat Wellington has.

But surely, his talent and recent improvement would give hima pre-season opportunity I think..
