Crowley returns as Arsenal U18s thrash Leicester

U18 Premier League- Game 25

Arsenal 5 (Iwobi 12, Hinds 53, 85, Jebb 72, Mavididi 80) Leicester City 0

Arsenal U18s returned to form in emphatic fashion as they thrashed Leicester City 5-0 at London Colney this morning.

Coach Carl Laraman was able to call upon hugely promising midfielder Dan Crowley following his injury lay-off, with the 16 year old completing 45 minutes on his return. Alex Iwobi opened the scoring after 12 minutes and Arsenal then took full advantage of Leicester’s weaknesses in the second period, with substitute Kaylen Hinds scoring twice to add to goals from Jack Jebb and the impressive Stephy Mavididi, with the latter having now scored four goals in seven starts this season.

There were seven changes to the team that were beaten by Norwich City last week, with schoolboy Aaron Eyoma coming in for his first start of the season at right-back. Jebb, Mavididi, Iwobi, Crowley, Glen Kamara and Renny Smith were also called upon, with schoolboys Harry Donovan and Tyrell Robinson featuring from the bench.

Arsenal have just six league fixtures remaining at U18 level, starting with next Saturday’s trip to face Blackburn Rovers, but dates for their two-legged FA Youth Cup Semi-Final against Chelsea are still to be arranged.

The U21 game against West Ham United on Monday, meanwhile, will now kick off at 2pm and will take place at London Colney, rather than Borehamwood, as had been originally planned.

  1. A tiny bit of a light on a very dark day for Arsenal, then. (Can’t rule out Hayden being drafted in for Tues after that bullshit today)

For some reason, the Youth cup tie on the FA website seems to be showing as a one-off tie instead of two dates, as it was. Given the fact they originally insisted 1st leg had to be played by today, and that generally it seems a low priority keeping the site updated, it probably means nothing, but it made me wonder.

They probably changed plans when clubs pointed out players were away with international teams, and maybe some kind of compromise has taken place to keep the final on schedule?

  2. Would’ve though it would be eyoma as rw and smith as rb or was it an experience thing? Aneke scored twice again and I was wondering your opinion jeorge on whether his contract may be extrended. Certainly deserves it IMO.
