Arsenal’s first-team squad held their final training session at London Colney this morning prior to tomorrow’s Premier League encounter against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Three players from the U21 side were present, with Semi Ajayi, Jon Toral and Kristoffer Olsson being called upon by Arsene Wenger. January loan signing Kim Kallstrom, who is now fully recovered from injury, was also involved, with the Swedish international in contention to make the bench tomorrow.

Theo Walcott, Abou Diaby, Aaron Ramsey, Jack Wilshere, Mesut Ozil and Ryo were all absent owing to injury, with the latter having been ruled out for the rest of the season after suffering a severe hamstring problem whilst playing for the U21s against Reading last week. Nicklas Bendtner wasn’t present following his recent disciplinary problems, whilst Gedion Zelalem trained with the U21 team instead.

Tomas Rosicky also trained and the midfielder will be assessed later to determine whether he will be able to feature against Chelsea.

Players involved in training: Wojciech Szczesny, Lukasz Fabianski, Emiliano Viviano, Bacary Sagna, Carl Jenkinson, Per Mertesacker, Laurent Koscielny, Thomas Vermaelen, Semi Ajayi, Kieran Gibbs, Nacho Monreal, Mikel Arteta, Mathieu Flamini, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Tomas Rosicky, Santi Cazorla, Lukas Podolski, Olivier Giroud, Yaya Sanogo, Jon Toral, Kristoffer Olsson, Kim Kallstrom, Serge Gnabry.

  1. While it is nice to see these youngsters get a bit of recognition, we must remember that this just highlights what a perilous position the senior squad is in. Woefully short of CBs, and an injury crisis in midfield.
Let us hope it doesn’t cost us!
