Chuba Akpom made his debut for Brentford yesterday, with the striker emerging as a 68th minute substitute during his temporary side’s 1-1 draw with Walsall.

Chuks Aneke received a yellow card and had a shot saved as the midfielder played the entirety of Crewe Alexandra’s defeat to Leyton Orient.

Joel Campbell played the whole game as Olympiacos beat Levadiakos 2-0.

Wellington came on for the final 14 minutes as Murcia drew 0-0 with Recreativo Huelva. Francis Coquelin played the second-half as Freiburg lost 5-0 to Union Berlin in a friendly, whilst Johan Djourou, who turned 27 yesterday, was not involved as Hamburg took on Basel.

Hector Bellerin was an un-used substitute as Watford drew 1-1 with Bournemouth, whilst Ignasi Miquel was not part of the Leicester City side that beat Leeds United. Damian Martinez was amongst the substitute as Sheffield Wednesday drew with Burnley.

Boreham Wood’s game away to Maidenhead United was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch, meaning Austin Lipman and Anthony Jeffrey had no fixture to fulfil, whilst the same fate befell Josh Vickers, with Canvey Island’s game with Hornchurch falling victim to the inclement weather conditions.

  1. I love this site, but it would be quite interesting if the author would give his/her opinion on who of the list above AFC should keep. I for one cannot see a future for most of them and we should replace most of them with better local talent.

    1. You win some and you lose some. Arsenal try to scout and get local english kids too but some of them are not good enough. Some of the foreigners are not good enough either. Ajayi is from England and play for the U21. Macey for U21 too. Bottom line is its not about nationality. Its about talent, but the foreigners are more likely to get a better contract. With better contracts comes better opportunities. I definitely think talent should comes first and not the contract. There are no doubt some players gets to play just because they got a better contract despite being worse. In the end its about finding the special player for the first team. Which is kind a easy to spot when you are better than the rest for the most part. Like Gnabry has done. Not convinced by Zelalem just yet. Looks good but so is Olsson, toral, bellerin, afobe, ajayi, maitland-niles, crowley and so on.
