Arsenal U18s suffer ninth defeat of the season, but trialist scores hat-trick for U16s

U18 Premier League- Game 16

Arsenal 0 Norwich City 1

Arsenal U18s’ search for a victory will continue into 2014 after they were beaten 1-0 at home to Norwich City this morning. Carl Laraman’s side played some impressive football and came close to scoring on several occasions, but still suffered defeat after conceding in the first-half.

Laraman made three changes from the team that secured a point away to Leicester City last week, with Leander Siemann, Stephy Mavididi and Stefan O’Connor coming into the side, the latter making his first appearance at this level since September.

subs: Iliev, Willock, Raage, Uade, Smith.

Arsenal started brightly and came close to opening the scoring early on with Ainsley Maitland-Niles, who was an un-used substitute for the U21s against Manchester United last night, finding Jack Jebb, whose shot hit the post.

Arsenal continued to dominate, with Mavididi coming perilously close to scoring only to see his lofted effort cleared off the line before Alex Iwobi directed a shot wide from the edge of the area.

All of that good work was undone, however, when Cameron headed home from a corner to open the scoring for Norwich in the 28th minute.

The goal went against the general flow of the game, but Arsenal, for all their impressive passing, were sorely lacking a sense of decisiveness in front of goal, with Mavididi seeing a shot saved before Dan Crowley hit the post.

Arsenal were thwarted twice in quick succession midway through the second-half, with Crowley and Maitland-Niles both denied by the impressive Norwich goalkeeper Ben Killip.

Despite the pressure that they exerted on the Norwich defence, however, Arsenal suffered another defeat, their ninth of the season already. They will be hoping for considerably better fortunes in the New Year.

Meanwhile, trialist Martin Graiciar scored a hat-trick, with Ernest Okoh also on the scoresheet as the U16s beat Norwich 4-2.

  1. jeorge, what has happened to Jamal raage. according to his tweet, it seems he is going back to Sweden and he will no longer be in the arsenal academy. As usual frustrating result for the under-18

  2. No surprise again the U18s have lost, this will not change whilst they
    have the coach currently in charge Carl
    Larraman. From information coming out of Hale End he was seen as a liabillity in and around the training ground, even though hes had his back covered , he had to be moved up to shenley and put out of the way. Many players ( good players ) have either not signed for the club because of him or signed players have left also because of his eccentric behaviour towards player and parents. Staff have also left because of him and much of why they left has been covered
    up by the management. While he carrys on at the club there will always be deteriation in what ever he does, hes seen as an apsolute useless individual by his colleagues at the club. But is known for his muliputive cunning ways in getting senior staff on his side, hes not at Arsenal because hes good at his job. Time for this character to go.

  3. Did someone see U16’s trialist Graiciar in action??
    I’ve read here he has scored an hat-trick and I understood that he’s hightly-rated in his country. I saw few videos of him in youtube and got a good impression. I didn’t find the exact age but a webiste (unofficial) stated 1999 (so about 14);
