Loan report- Campbell continues impressive form

Joel Campbell continued his recent scintillating form by scoring one goal and setting up two more as Olympiacos dispatched of PAOK with a 4-0 victory. Campbell laid on goals for Kostas Mitroglu and Javier Saviola before scoring the fourth goal himself after David Fuster had also found the net. Campbell now has three goals and seven assists to his name so far this season.

Francis Coquelin started on the left-wing but was substituted at half-time as Freiburg lost 3-1 Stuttgart, whilst Johan Djourou didn’t feature for Hamburg due to injury.

Chuks Aneke played the first 75 minutes as Crewe Alexandra drew 1-1 with Wycombe Wanderers in the FA Cup First Round. The midfielder has extended his stay with the League One side until the end of the season.

Also in the FA Cup, Austin Lipman completed 76 minutes on his home debut for Boreham Wood, with the striker sending two shots wide of the target as his loan side drew 0-0 with Carlisle United.

Josh Vickers played the whole game as Canvey Island beat Hampton & Richmond Borough 2-0 in the Ryman Premier League.

Ignasi Miquel was an un-used substitute as Leicester City lost 2-0 to Nottingham Forest in the Championship.

Wellington didn’t feature as Murcia drew 1-1 with Lugo.

Damian Martinez was again an un-used substitute as Sheffield Wednesday lost to Derby County. The Argentinian goalkeeper has not played a single minute of football for the Championship side, with his month-long loan spell due to expire on Friday.

  1. is miquel getting any u21 matches under his belt at Leicester? seems to me like he has hardly played at all. coquelin seems to be getting subbed off a lot too, whilst Martinez and wellington are not playing either. Also what the hell has happened to Samuel galindo????

I think the club need to think long and hard about these loanees, I would say they are better off going further down the leagues and playing regular or the club need to insist on the players getting game time. otherwise they may as well play u21 football for us.

    1. Wellington used to play in the highest division in brazil and now he is not getting any time at all.. it seems really strange. I don’t think he will make it. Gnabry is already playing in the PL. Campbell is playing a lot too. I have no doubt Akpom or another fast pace player will take the spot ahead of him.

I rate Campbell and Gnabry the highest of all the wingers.

  2. in the last five matches for real Murcia, wellington Silva has accumulated 117 playing time. so Silva is getting playing time. the ones I am worried about are Martinez and miquel

    1. That’s an average of 20mins per match. Not anywhere near enough to be considered for next season. Our loanees certainly have been poor no denying that. If there is a silver lining i suppose that decisions on recruiting for first team will be more clear cut…though I’m not sure if that can be called a silver lining! Having said that there’s hope for campbell who always seems to take time to click into gear but he’s had to adjust from Costa Rica to France to Spain and now Greece. If he would cut out the diving he’s got a great attitude and seems to contribute a lot defensively.

  3. miquel looked good in the cup for Leicester and needs to be playing regular if he is to become 4th choice cb. Martinez, what was the point of that loan? surely sheff wed have another keeper in their ranks. I would rather see Martinez at boreham wood than let him sit on another bench

    1. I was getting the score updates from a betting website, but somebody has just contacted me to advise that if anybody is interested, you can get live updates from the Villa site. 4-0 at H/T
