Arsenal have completed the signing of goalkeeper Matt Macey from Bristol Rovers, it was confirmed today.

The youngster has made three appearances for the club as a trialist and his signing will provide competition for Deyan Iliev and Ryan Huddart at youth level, with Damian Martinez currently on loan at Sheffield Wednesday and Josh Vickers on a youth loan with Canvey Island.

Macey, who is still eligible to play for the U18s, was also scouted extensively by Everton, but chose Arsenal as his destination after greatly impressing Terry Burton and the rest of the club’s coaching staff.

A tall shot-stopper with good reflexes and communication skills, the 18 year old is believed to have signed a three-year deal with Arsenal and will aim to establish himself in the U21 side in the near future, having made his debut at that level against West Bromwich Albion at Emirates Stadium last month.
