Five members of Arsenal’s U21 squad trained with the first-team at London Colney this morning, with the quintet of youngsters set to be included in Arsene Wenger’s squad for tomorrow evening’s Capital One Cup tie against West Bromwich Albion.
Chuba Akpom, Hector Bellerin, Kristoffer Olsson, Isaac Hayden and Thomas Eisfeld were all involved, whilst Nicklas Bendtner could also feature after completing the workout unscathed. With no fewer than nine first-team players out through injury, Wenger’s options are considerably limited, but some senior figures could still be involved at the Hawthorns, with the likes of Mesut Ozil, Mathieu Flamini, Jack Wilshere and Kieran Gibbs also involved in training today.
Bellerin, Olsson and Hayden would make their competitive debuts for the club if they featured tomorrow, and, given the current lack of options available, it is feasible that at least one of the trio could start.
With Lukasz Fabianski having suffered an injury on Friday, loan acquisition Emiliano Viviano could make his debut for the club in goal, whilst Thomas Vermaelen is likely to receive his first start of the season. Mikel Arteta, who returned from injury as a substitute against Stoke City at the weekend, may also start in a side likely to contain a blend of youth and experience.
Emmanuel Frimpong was again absent, whilst Fabianski, Theo Walcott, Abou Diaby, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Tomas Rosicky, Yaya Sanogo, Lukas Podolski, Gedion Zelalem and Santi Cazorla are all out injured, as are youngsters Benik Afobe, Zak Ansah, Jon Toral and Nico Yennaris, who could potentially have been included in this squad were it not for injury.
Update: Park was also involved in training.
