Chuks Aneke started and played the first 73 minutes before being replaced, but couldn’t make a sustained impact as Crewe Alexandra beat Tranmere Rovers 2-1 in League One.

Goalkeeper Josh Vickers, meanwhile, made his debut for Ryman League side Canvey Island as they lost 1-0 to Lewes. The second-year scholar was beaten by Jack Dickson’s effort after eight minutes, but proceeded to make several impressive saves.

Ignasi Miquel wasn’t involved as Leicester City lost 1-0 to Derby County in the Championship.

Wellington is not expected to feature when Real Murcia take on Recreativo Huelva this evening.

In the Bundesliga, Francis Coquelin was an un-used substitute as Freiburg lost 2-1 to Mainz, whilst Johan Djourou was absent through injury as Hamburg were trounced 5-1 by Hoffenheim.

Joel Campbell‘s Olympiacos start their league season away to Kalloni tomorrow night.

    1. is that based on knowledge Charlie or are you just being pessimistic because of the first team’s failings?

I would love to know how you have reached a decision on a 17 year old goalkeeper, who has what a potential 23 years of playing career ahead of him?

  1. To be fair to Charles, it is an easy observation to make. If any of these players were good enough they would surely feature in the 1st team squad with the exception of Wellington Silva ( work permit problems) and Vickers(too young)
