Algerian trialist Ramy Bensebaini was one of a quintet of youngsters who trained with the first-team today at London Colney ahead of tomorrow’s Premier League opener at home to Aston Villa.
The club are still mulling over the decision to offer a permanent deal to the centre-back, who has endured a torrid time for the U21s during pre-season. Serge Gnabry, Gedion Zelalem, Isaac Hayden and Hector Bellerin also trained today, along with the 17 available first-team players.
With options considerably scarce, at least two youngsters are set to make the bench tomorrow, with Hayden and Zelalem the most likely options. Striker Yaya Sanogo, meanwhile, recovered from injury to train today and is likely to be amongst the substitutes, whilst midfielder Emmanuel Frimpong may not yet be fit enough for competitive action.
Abou Diaby, Thomas Vermaelen, Nacho Monreal, Ryo and Mikel Arteta are all currently injured, whilst Nicklas Bendtner and Ju-Young Park are surplus to requirements and were not involved in today’s session.
The full list of the 22 players who trained today is as follows:
Szczesny, Fabianski, Sagna, Mertesacker, Koscielny, Gibbs, Ramsey, Wilshere, Walcott, Rosicky, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Podolski, Jenkinson, Cazorla, Giroud, Frimpong, Sanogo, Gnabry, Zelalem, Hayden, Bellerin, Bensebaini.
