Arsenal under-18s came from behind in spectacular fashion to see off Aston Villa at London Colney this morning.
Coach Steve Bould made two changes from the side which edged past Watford, with Oguzhan Özyakup coming in for Samir Carruthers and Sanchez Watt replacing Nigel Neita up front.
The Gunners began on the front foot and took the lead when Watt headed home Cedric Evina’s cross.
However, in a bizarre turn of fortunes, Arsenal found themselves 2-1 down. Firstly, a penalty was awarded after Shea conceded a foul in the area and the ‘keeper failed to make amends by allowing the spot-kick to beat him easily. Villa then took the lead with a goal from a corner but the Gunners refused to lay down and die.
Roarie Deacon, who scored the winner against Watford last week, levelled proceedings after he latched onto Rhema Obed’s cross. Multiple chances followed at both ends before Jay Emmanuel-Thomas, on as a substitute, fed Jonas Rasmussen who scored the decisive goal of the game.
The Gunners remain unbeaten in 2009 and host Portsmouth next week.
