42. Thomas Eisfeld

Having initially been restricted by injury since joining from Borussia Dortmund in January 2012, Thomas featured prominently last season, catching the eye on his senior debut as a substitute in the incredible 7-5 win over Reading in the Capital One Cup.

That came off the back of an impressive pre-season for the young German, who tends to operate on the right flank but can also play just off the main striker. The youngster was named the club’s player of the Asia Tour having found the net in games against a Malaysia XI and local side Kitchee.

He continued his good goalscoring form at U21 level, scoring in the first two games of the season, and eventually ended up with nine goals for the second-string. He also featured intermittently in the NextGen Series, rattling the crossbar with a ferocious strike against CSKA Moscow and scoring in the 3rd place play-off defeat to Sporting Lisbon.

There have been some concerns, however, that, despite his impressive goal tally, Thomas’ overall performances since joining the club haven’t been of the highest standard.

He will be hoping to rectify those claims, possibly by featuring more prominently for the first-team, during 2013/14.

Why are Eisfeld and Gnabry not getting a chance to come off the bench in the prem?
