Although he didn’t make it onto the pitch at the Hawthorns, the youngster appeared to take much confidence from his call-up and he went on to feature 40 times for the various youth teams last season, scoring eight goals in the process.

Alex’s best form came in the FA Youth Cup, as he scored twice against Torquay United, whilst also finding the net away to Charlton Athletic. The England youth international also broke into Arsenal’s U21 squad, featuring 11 times for Steve Gatting’s side.

Having played the majority of his football at U18 level last season, Alex will step up to the U21 team on a permanent basis during the new campaign having signed his first professional contract with the club.

“Electric speed” is misleading. He’s not that quick, actually.
