65. Sam Byles

Promising youngster Sam successfully underwent the transition from flying right-back to tenacious central-midfielder last season and this campaign he will be fighting tooth and nail in an attempt to prove to the Arsenal coaching staff that he is worthy of a professional contract.

After scraping a scholarship last summer, Sam began the campaign on the fringes of the u-18 side but went on to make ten starts in the Premier Academy League and a further six as a substitute.

There were several highlights, including an impressive showing against Chelsea at London Colney in which he, along with Craig Eastmond, ran the midfield against the Blues.

One blot on Sam’s copybook to emerge from last campaign was that he lost his place in the England set-up and is unlikely to regain it in the near future.

However, that will only make him more determined to prove that he does have a future as a decent player in the professional game- even though it may not be with Arsenal.
