Ramsey puts in virtuoso display as Wales torment Scotland
Posted by Jeorge Bird on November 15, 2009

Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey put in a sublime performance as Wales beat Scotland 3-0 in an international friendly yesterday. The 18 year old was the heartbeat of the Welsh side, setting up goals for David Edwards and Simon Church before capping off the victory with a stunning solo goal of his own. All of this came despite him being on the field for just 56 minutes before being replaced.
With no friendly scheduled for midweek, Ramsey will re-join his Arsenal team-mates for training at London Colney on Monday morning and will hope to be involved against Sunderland in six days time after impressing on his first Premier League start of the season against Wolves last time out. Denilson, a source of competition for the youngster, will be back in full training next week but, with the games coming thick and fast over the Winter period, Ramsey surely stands a decent chance of being involved in Wenger’s plans in the forthcoming weeks.

Will he not be involved in the u21 qualification on Wednesday? I thought he was replaced so early because of it. (though for us it would be better if he came back to London Colney)

good news from ramsey but just heard rvp out for about 3months with bad ankle injury

Are you kidding me? what the fuck…. 2 strikers out.. I hope Vela and eduardo can score as much goals… Luckly Nasri and rocisky is back but I really hope Vela become a regular. You never know but Watt might score a few goals for us too.

this is really bad imo. really really bad. such bad timing as well. Bendtner’s out for 1/2 months. Is Vela back from injury yet? if yes he should take this chance, because Eduardo and him are the only 2 recognised strikers who are fit at present. If Vela does enough until January, it will put Wenger off from buying another striker in the transfer window. It also means more gametime for Watt.

Is there any video of Ramsey’s performance on the net anywhere?

This must put Ramsey on the brink of getting ahead of Diaby in the pecking order. Song and Fabregas are secure with their places but I think the order for the third midfield slot goes like this: Nasri, Denilson, Diaby/Ramsey, Merida. And then Rosicky will sometimes play in their, but with injuries he is forces to play as a forward.

btw. does anybody have highlights from the game, can’t seem to find them anywhere

Ramseys not going to get much playing time now. Fabregas and song own two of the three midfielf places which leaves rosicky nasri and daiby for the 3rd place.

I like ramsey alot i want to see him fabregas and song in a three man midfield. Ramsey adds more height and strength compared to rosicky and nasri.
We have onli been playin diaby cause we lack height in the arsenal team and now with van persie injured we look too short.
I wont be suprised to see wenger play senderos with gallas and play vermaelen at left back to add extra height to the team

That actually will not happen.

Ramsey will be used as a back up for Nasri, who is the better player right now.
Ramsey has great potential, but Nasri is a fantastic player

with van persie injured and bendtner also out, eduardo will probably move into the middle of the front three with rosicky on the left.

With the rate Ramsey is developing, Diaby and Denilson can almost forget about ever holding down a regular place in this team. In the long run (given that Cesc won’t leave in the coming years) it looks like a battle between Nasri and Ramsey. Nasri is a fantastic player and still only 22 but he must be worried about the 18 year old Welshman. Almost every time he has come on this season, the game has changed in our favor. I am so grateful that he chose us instead of the old Scot. It was for the best for us and him. He will be a star in a couple of years. Maybe he won’t win a first team spot this year, maybe not even the next, but he is a SUPERstar in the making. If only we can keep him, Cesc and Song together then our midfield three could become as legendary as our back four of Adams and co.

Well nasri is a winger most of the time and ramsey is a CM. I think nasri have nothing to worry about really… He is only 22 and will become much better over the years. The players who should be worry is all the CM we have, Merida, Diaby, Lansbury, JET and a few more. I honestly think Denilsons main competition is Song but they are playing in midfield with each other alot of times too. But diaby should be very afraid.
It really is fantastic to have the opportunity to follow Ramseys development.

Some of you people are unbelievable. Ramsey played well against the useless Scots and all of a sudden he can replace Diaby and Denilson? I don’t know what you are smoking, or maybe it’s more sinister than that, but get a grip.

chambers and ramsey two welsh internationals

Turns out rvps injury should only keep him out for 4-6 weeks, thats manageable.
Björgvin Agnarsson said
Passenal maybe but wasnt Ramsey playing against Fletcher someone meant to be the force who makes Manu midfield so strong?

Aaron Ramsays time will come but just not yet.

Wales give Ramsey a free reign, he’ll need to play a bit more defensively for Arsenal, otherwise he’ll jut repeat Diaby’s mistakes

it’s not just this game, he has been fantastic all season. He has hischead firmly screwed on so the sky is the limit for him

I have watched against the Wolves game, and my opinion has not changed.
He had a distinctively average game. Yes he is terrific going forward, but his defensive play was diabolical. In the 4-3-3 we played, he was supposed to play the defensive role with Diaby with Fabregas the third man of the deeper 3. He kept leaving space behind him.
People state that when Diaby was replaced by Song, Arsenal got a foothold into the game. The reality is that Arsene Wenger changes slightly the system. Instead of of a 4-1-2*-2-1 with Diaby the holding midfield player and RamseyFabregas just higher the pitch, Arsene Wenger told Fabregas to play at the same level than Song in a 4-2-1-2-1. That may sound small but it means that suddenly we had two holding midfield players. Ramsey was then free to roam forward without fear of leaving huge gap behind.
Arsenal’s second goeal is a case in point. Ramsey is Arsenal’s further high player on the pitch.
People call him some kind of pass master, but often he try the Hollywood pass a la Gerrard (his role model) instead of the simple pass that will not put you in danger. Against a poor Scottish team, Wales were never in danger.
I have also doubt on his ability to make right pass under pressure. You may also have noticed that the same way he messed up his final pass to Fabregas against Spurs at the end of the game, he also messed up the pass to Eduardo. His pass bobbled up and was not enough on the side. Multiple times, Ramsey went deep to collect the ball, he then try to trick his way pass their midfield. Whenever he could he send make a rush pass that often leaves his teammate in danger. Twice our left back received some suicidal pass.
Song who is clearly some placid and shy guy, even had a go at him once. Song was forced into a rush clearance into row Z to avoid losing the ball in dangerous area or being injured by a sliding tackle in downpour weather.
I am awaiting Denilson return and Coquelin or Eastmond introduction as anchor man with impatience.

Although you have made one or two valid points there i would have to remind you that he turns 19 on Boxing Day and he made his second start for one of the top European clubs in that Wolves game. I can’t stress to you how much the psychological aspect comes into play in such situations.
Yes he made a few forward forays when he should have just been concentrating on holding his position and he tries the odd ‘Hollywood’ pass but that’s because he is so desperate to impress (which is completely understandable at his age and being in his situation).
I criticised Diaby in a similar way about a month ago on here but that’s because he really should be producing better than he had been at that point. He is approaching his mid-twenties and 100 Arsenal appearances (not quite sure of the exact figures) as well as being a full international for one of the elite footballing sides in the World. Since my criticism (and AW’s mad rant at him when we were 3-0 up against the Spuds) Diaby has been performing much better (more like at the level he should be performing) and was IMO, one of the better players Arsenal had on the pitch against Wolves until he came off injured. I’m just trying to show you here that you have to take things into perspective before having a pop at a kid who’s been suddenly thrusted into the big-time a la Ramsey.
Also, against Wolves it was more a 4-1-2-2-1 with Cesc and Ramsey playing slightly ahead of Song after Diaby came off injured.
Yes the Scots have been poor under Burley lately (hence the reason he’s got the bullet) but they still make it hard for you to play ALL THE TIME. What Scots lack in quality, they make up for with their commitment. AR was up against Fletcher – a man who has arguably been Man Utd’s best player so far this season, and he absolutely ripped him and the Scots to shreds. He hardly put a foot wrong and it was a magnificent performance from one so young. That’s why he has been receiveing such lavish praise since that match.
Sorry mate, i thought you was a bit too harsh on him there.
