Big year ahead for talented Zak Ansah

zackansah

There always seems to be one ’super talent’ to emerge from Arsenal’s much heralded Hale End Academy each season. First there was Jack Wilshere, then Benik Afobe and next in line could well be the much-hyped Zak Ansah.

I first brought to your attention Zak’s progress and potential almost a year ago when I revealed that he was one of the ‘technically gifted’ 14 year-olds that Arsene Wenger spoke about. A year on and he is pushing for a place in Steve Bould’s under-18s side and seems certain to make his debut at that level during this calendar year.

Capable playing either as a left-winger or up front, Zak has slotted into Steve Gatting’s under-16s side with ease, and is second only to the aforementioned Afobe in the scoring charts, having racked up five goals so far this campaign. With Benik now being increasingly involved with the u-18s, Zak has got his chance and taken it with aplomb.

If the surname Ansah sounds familiar to you then it is probably you watched Wayne Rooney’s Street Striker on Sky One last month, on which Zak’s father Andy (a former professional footballer) was one of the judges. Zak looks set to represent England u-16s in the Victory Shield during the latter part of 2009 and will be hoping to emulate Afobe’s efforts in the 2008 tournament.

Zak will face many hurdles over the next 12 months, many of them will be mental challenges such as how he will deal with his ’super talent’ tag and also whether he has the endeavour to alternate between u-16s and u-18s football with ease. He is not adverse to pressure, having captained Arsenal from the under-11s to the under-15s, and the signs are already pointing to yet another sublime player. It is far too early to tell what the end result will be in Zak’s development but early indications show that the Gunners might just have another gem on their hands.

Andy Ansah used to play for Southend when they were a Championship club. I wondered if there was a connection. Was a useful player who might have played at a higher level. He asked my Sister in law out once, but then so did Ricky Otto.

Hope the kid has what it takes.

It’s great that we have all of these young attacking players coming up but we never seem to have any defenders coming up that particularly stand out.

Even if Zak Ansah is eligible to play for another country i would be very very very supprised if he does because the money and prestige he would get by playing for England if he turns out to be good enough?, would far out weigh what he would get playing for another country.

You keep complaining about Ansah having to deal with the pressure of being treated like a ’super talent’ but you seem to be the only person on the internet banding around terms like that. Maybe chill it for a bit and let the boy just learn the game yeah?

    Also, how old is he?

  13. BooMer, Nordtveit’s attitude Salamanca was abysmal and apart from his distribution from the back in terms of long range passing but nothing in his defending that says to me “future arsenal CB”. He may yet prove me wrong until but people need to quit talking about him like he is special young defender. With the development that i have seen in Ayling this season, HN other young defenders ahead of him needs to watch out big time.

jeorge maybe “Fabregas’ Dad” is talking about players coming through the youth system and not being bought, i.e. Bartley coming from Bolton. Isn’t Ayling a product of the youth system though?

Regarding Zack’s dual nationality, if he is eligible for another nation and they know about him I would expect them to be promising him first team football in their first team before England can. Though if this turns out to be true I hope he battles it out to play for England as he sounds quite a player. Shouldn’t this apply to Benik too BTW? I can’t remember if it has been stated if he has another nation eligible to play for.

Well, with Gallas and Silvestre out, it opens for Nordtveit on the bench for Bolton.

  17. But Havard is severely lacking in match fitness and Clichy could be back.

which still leaves bad cover in the middle of the park. Its better to have an actual, but unfit, centreback than to count on clichy as a CB cover. (can he even win headers?)

  19. Boomer, A Song is the 5th option not Clichy and after Song, we could also move Sagna into the centre in externuating circumstances.

Zak Ansah is a brilliant player. I used to play in the same club as him “Cray Wanderous” but then he was far to good for us and moved on to “Arsenal”. His dad Andy Ansah used to be our manager. He played at a completely different level to the rest of us. Good luck to him. If he dont make it i wonder how good you to be!
