Nacer Barazite- Derby 3 Sheffield Wednesday 0

barazitederby

After impressing after coming on as a substitute last week, Nacer started on the right-wing for Derby against Sheffield Wednesday today.

The start to the game was quite scrappy with both sides keen to impose themselves on the game. The Rams gradually took hold of the game, with Paul Green testing visiting ‘keeper Lee Grant. Nacer was the victim of a crunching challenge from Wednesday’s James O’Connor, but instead of being dis-heartened by this physical approach, the Dutchman seemed to be inspired by it and started dictating the game more. Derby’s class was showing through and they took the lead through Kris Commons on 31 minutes. Nacer caused a problem with his corner-kick from the left in the closing stages of the first half but no Derby player could get on the end of it.

Wednesday seemed determined to rectify proceedings in the early stages of the second-half but it was the Rams who found the net again with Miles Addison on target for Paul Jewell’s side. Jordan Stewart then sealed the win on 67 minutes.

Armand Traoré- West Ham 0 Portsmouth 0

Armand found himself on the bench again, with Nadir Belhadj preferred on the left-wing with Noe Pamarot at left-back.

However, former Arsenal midfielder Lassana Diarra was injured after a strong challenge from Scott Parker and had to be substituted. Traoré began warming up and was eventually called back by the Pompey coaching staff and came on after 19 minutes.

It was a pretty even game and Craig Bellamy smashed an effort against the bar for the hosts and, as time ticked by, both sides seemed more desperate to score what would most likely be the winning goal. Traoré tried his luck from long range but couldn’t direct his attempt on target. Defoe looked threatening against his former side but couldn’t find the net and the match finished 0-0.

Abu Ogogo- Barnet 0 Notts County 4

Abu was handed his first Barnet start against Notts County at Underhill- less than 48 hours after joining the Bees on a month’s loan.

Abu, playing at right-back, was eager to impress. However, things got off to a bad start after the visitors took the lead through Richard Butcher after just seven minutes. Ogogo had hardly got a touch of the ball when Notts County found the net again, with Jonathan Forte beating Rob Beckwith. Forte was in an inspired mood and eventually doubled his tally with another goal on 32 minutes to make it 3-0. Forte’s next action was a crunching challenge on Ogogo which resulted in a foul. Ogogo was the victim of another late challenge soon after, this time from Myles Weston. Just when you thought things couldn’t get any worse for Ogogo and the Bees, Forte scored again just before the break for 4-0.

Ogogo completed the whole 90 minutes but it was a debut to forget for the youngster.

Kerrea Gilbert- Swindon 2 Leicester 2

Kerrea was expected to be fit for today’s trip to Swindon but he failed a late fitness test and as such didn’t take any part in the game.

Leicester thought they had done enough to win thanks to second-half goals from Matt Oakley and Matty Fryatt. However, Swindon fought back and scored two quickfire goals late on to salvage a point.

Pedro Botelho- Albacete 2 Salamanca 2

Pedro came on as a 27th minute substitute as Salamanca came from behind to salvage a point against Albacete. Salamanca took the lead through Pelegrin on 8 minutes, with  Jaime drawing Albacete level on 26 minutes. Moments later, Pedro replaced Sito Castro at left-back. The two sides went in level at the break but Alberto gave the visitors the lead soon after the re-start. Los Charros had to rely on Miku to rescue a point nine minutes from time.

Vincent van den Berg- Fortuna Sittard 1 Zwolle 3

Elsewhere in the draw, Manchester United host Blackburn and Tottenham face Watford in an all London affair.

FULL DRAW:

Stoke City v Derby County
Manchester United v Blackburn Rovers
Burnley v Arsenal
Watford v Tottenham Hotspur

The quarter-finals will be played during the week beginning 1 December.
