Kerrea Gilbert’s arrest could cloud his Arsenal hopes
Arsenal defender Kerrea Gilbert was arrested on September 24th and will be tried for being drunk and disorderly in January. It is just the latest in a series of attitude problems which have threatened to taint the 21 year-old’s once promising career.
Gilbert, who has nine Arsenal first team appearances to his name, is currently on loan at League One side Leicester City and has been a regular for the Foxes so far this term. However, he came under the spotlight last season after falling out with the Reserve team coach whilst on loan at Southend.
With Justin Hoyte now at Middlesbrough and his brother Gavin tipped for a loan spell away from the club, it was thought that Kerrea could return to the Emirates next summer as second-choice right-back behind Bacary Sagna.
However, this latest development could mean the end of the Hammersmith-born defender’s career with the Gunners with Arsene Wenger not willing to accept trouble-makers in his side.

It would be a shame if he turned out to be another Jermaine Pennant. Maybe it’s a one-off never to be repeated mistake? Let’s hope so for his sake.
While I hope you’re right, Passenal, the fact is that Kerrea has already been in enough trouble to win him the Graham Souness award for being able to start a massive fight in an empty room.
Ah we’ve all been there and done it once in our lives.
I’m sure this’ll sh*t him up and he’ll learn from his mistake.
yh but it turned out to be good for pennant though. He’s currently playin for the best team in europe! liverpool!!!
harivaldo’s a funny guy isn’t he?
i certainly am. ask jeorge.
He’s not actually PLAYING for Liverpool, is he? Pennant all by himself fucked a promising carreer well up.
errrrr…no, Pennant isn’t playing for anyone at the mo’, because he’s always on the bench because he’s not good enough!!
It’s not the first bit of trouble Gilbert has caused, he’ll never play for Arsenal again.
And Liverpool were desperate to offload him to Stoke!
Harivaldo is a dunce. Full stop.
You’d have to think that being drunk and disorderly wouldn’t be too awful a charge.
There but for the grace of God go any number of us.
haha pennant is at liverpool,he certainly is playing though!
Its only drunk and disorderly, he’s just a lad!
Harivaldo i hope your kidding cause if our not keep looking over your sholder the men in white coats are coming
i have it on good authrority that he was arrested unfairly as he was actually trying his best to break up a fight
You can’t polish a turd! As we discovered with Pennant and the young lad looking to go to Blackburn now and Kerrea! Give them something amazing, a chance we all never had and they go and f**k it all up! Tough luck, it’s no great loss to us!
When players drink drive they should be kicked out of football. Playing football, let alone playing for Arsenal is a privilege and if the kid decides to risk his life and others by drinking and driving that privilege should be removed. As for second chances, asking the parents of the kids the Plymouth goalie killed when they will get a second chance. I guarantee this kid (Gilbert) earns more than 95% of the people that visit this site and guess what they do when they’ve had a beer, they get a cab. Shame promising youngster, I for one would not welcome him back.
Retract comment as I heard he was driving.
Also, currently playing is stretching the truth a bit. On the payroll would be a more accurate assessment of Pennant at Liverpool
pennant DOES play for liverpool. He’l prob start against spurs in the carling cup, a cup whcih arsenal love but never win. But hes workin hard in training….i doubt hel get a chance as kuyt is playin really well….but yh im sure pennants best decison he made, was leaving arsenal. Hes better than eboue though…im sure ul agree on that though.
Charges have been dropped, he was breaking up the fight after all. So all your self righteous condemners can wait for the next fallen star to savage.
Pennant is an excellent crosser of the ball, but I would still rather have Eboue, more versatile more defensive minded. Not afraid to run at people and despite the playacting generally a better attitude and work ethic than Jermaine.
Charges were NOT dropped. Gilbert appeared in court on 29 January, still pleading not guilty to drunk and disorderly behaviour. The excuse of breaking up a fight was never put forward as Gilbert declined to give evidence in his own defence. Police witnesses described him as not just drunk but shouting obscenities at them and making obscene gestures. He was found guilty and fined £700 and ordered to pay £200 costs. The chairman of the bench said that many youngsters admired footballers and that he set a very bad example.
