Freeman, Frimpong and Wilshere in England u-17s squad for qualifiers

Arsenal trio Luke Freeman, Emmanuel Frimpong and Jack Wilshere have been called up to the England u-17 squad for the European under-17 Championship qualifiers against Armenia, Estonia and Spain.

The first match against Armenia is on October 22nd meaning the players will all miss the reserve game with West Ham scheduled for the previous day. The next game is against Estonia on the 24th followed by the Spain game two days later.

Luckily for Freeman, his involvement does not rule him out of any matches for Arsenal under-18s.

The England side is a strong one containing the likes of José Baxter, Jonjo Shelvey and Keanu Marsh-Brown. I will of course be keeping you updated with how all of these players fare whilst they are representing the Three Lions.

Mérida in action as Spain under-19s thrash Faroe Islands

Arsenal starlet Fran Mérida completed 90 minutes as Spain under-19s thrashed their Faroe Islands counterparts 5-0 in their first match of UEFA under-19 Championship qualification this afternoon. Reported Gunners target Dani Aquino opened the scoring and went on to find the net again, with Sielva, Mario Gaspar and substitute Nacho also getting their names on the scoresheet. L’Espagne’s next qualifier is against Belarus on Saturday followed by a clash with Switzerland on Tuesday, meaning that Fran will miss Monday’s Reserves game with Stoke.

Meanwhile, another Arsenal youngster has been chosen to represent his country in the qualifiers. Striker Rui Fonte has been called up by Portugal under-19s for the matches against Bulgaria, Finland and Israel. The group will meet up for training on Tuesday, meaning there is a slight possibility that Rui won’t play against Stoke for the Reserves on Monday. Fonte is expected to be away from the 7th to the 19th of October.

In loan news, Nacer Barazite and Kerrea Gilbert both completed 90 minutes for their temporary clubs on Tuesday evening. Barazite was in action as Derby drew 1-1 with Birmingham in the Championship, whilst Gilbert helped Leicester to a 1-0 win over Colchester. Another Arsenal loanee, Armand Traoré could feature for Portsmouth against Guimares in the UEFA Cup tonight, whilst Philippe Senderos is set to miss out again for Milan due to injury.
