Ramsey tipped for key role in World Cup qualifiers

Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey will follow in the footsteps of his idol Ryan Giggs if he makes his senior Wales debut against Azerbaijan on Wednesday and it will be another high point in the remarkable rise of the youngster.

Signed from Cardiff this summer, Ramsey is a member of Arsenal’s first-team squad and made his debut in the Champions League Qualifier with FC Twente last month. He is still awaiting his Premier League bow, but that will surely come sooner rather than later.

For now, the Welshman is fully concentrated on helping his country reach the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. He has been called up for the qualifiers with Azerbaijan and Russia and his Welsh team-mate and good friend Chris Gunter is backing him for success.

He has been involved in every game there [at Arsenal] and he had a good pre-season so I think his choice has been justified in what has happened so far.

He has already played in a Champions League qualifier, which was a huge game at the time, so it has worked out quite well for him at the moment and as soon as he gets his chance I’m sure he will take it, like he did at Cardiff.

Meanwhile, Ramsey’s former club Cardiff have denied that they made an approach to bring the Welsh starlet back on loan.

If Aaron features on Saturday then you can read an update on his progress right here on Arsenal Youth.
