Wenger keen to loan out youngsters

Posted by Jeorge Bird on August 9, 2008

Arsene Wenger has revealed that he would be happy for some of the young talents at Arsenal to go out on loan this season in order to gain further experience. Speaking after the 1-1 draw with Sevilla, the Frenchman said

“I may let one or two go on loan because they need to play, it is part of education.

“It is not especially to get Premiership experience, but to play in the first team every week with that pressure.

“Then when we feel they are ready to integrate in the first team, they come back.”

Possible candidates include Jay Thomas, who has been criticised for dwelling on the ball, whilst Mark Randall and Kieran Gibbs could be set for further loan spells after they both spent time in the Championship last season. Defenders Gavin Hoyte and Paul Rodgers have both openly revealed their desires to go out on loan to a Championship club.

Meanwhile, Wenger also said that no offers have been recieved yet for full-back Justin Hoyte, a product of the Arsenal Academy, although he admitted that there is interest in him.

“At the moment, he is with us and we have no formal offer from anybody.

“There is interest here and there, but nothing concrete.”

The Frenchman also spoke about Mexican striker Carlos Vela, who found the net against Sevilla.

He is an exciting player and feel he is still not there physically.

“But overall he has all the skill and technical qualities to be an Arsenal player.”

The first-team’s pre-season may be over but the reserves still have a friendly against Boreham Wood to look forward to on Tuesday.

he has a problem with his knee and thigh which is why he left training early on Members Day. He could be back to face Twente though.
