Friendly preview- Crawley Town v Arsenal XI

Posted by Jeorge Bird on July 25, 2008

Tomorrow sees the first of several friendlies take place for Neil Banfield’s side, with further matches scheduled against the likes of Rushden & Diamonds and Boreham Wood.

It’s nearly three months since the final competitive game of last season against Aston Villa and the Gunners will be looking to get in shape ahead of the new season. The squad will consist of reserve and academy players and there have been reports that Kieran Gibbs is in line to feature in tomorrow’s fixture.

His inclusion seems likely, particulary as Gavin Hoyte, Nacer Barazite, Jack Wilshere, Havard Nordtveit, Francis Coquelin, Jay Simpson, Henri Lansbury and Mark Randall are all in Austria with the first-team squad.

Other absentees include Sam Byles, Jason Banton, Luke Freeman, Chuks Aneke and Oliver Nicholas who are with England as they prepare for the forthcoming Nordic Tournament.

There will be a full report available tomorrow evening right here on Arsenal Youth.

 Predicted team:

———————Szczesny———————

–Ogogo——Rodgers—————–Bartley——-Steer

–Rasmussen—Dunne—————–Thomas——-Watt

————-Murphy——————-Fonte————-

Gilles Sunu could also feature whilst Fran Merida could be in action as well at the Broadfield Stadium.

Gilbert handed no.4 shirt at Foxes, Moses linked

Posted by Jeorge Bird on July 25, 2008

Arsenal youngster Kerrea Gilbert has been handed the no.4 shirt at Leicester City, where he will be spending the entire season on loan. Gilbert didn’t feature last night as the Foxes saw off Quorn with an 8-4 victory but could return for the remaining pre-season friendlies against the likes of Kettering Town, Ikleston Town, Birmingham and Crystal Palace.

Speaking of Crystal Palace, The Sun links us to forward Victor Moses who represented England at the recent UEFA under-19 Championships. £3 million is their asking price and it remains to be seen whether we will pay it.
