Under-19 update, news round-up

Posted by Jeorge Bird on May 29, 2008

We’ll start with the latest update from the Elite qualifying round of the UEFA u-19 Championships. Fran Merida’s Spain have already qualified for the final tournament, which will take place in the Czech Republic in July. Read on for the latest updates.

Kieran Gibbs- England 1 Serbia 0

England edged closer to the finals with a 1-0 victory over Serbia thanks to a strike from Reading’s James Henry. They now sit top of group 1 with six points and take on Belarus on Saturday in their final qualification game.

Armand Traore- Sweden 1 France 2

France beat Sweden 2-1 thanks to goals from Fabien Robert and Gabriel Obertan. They face Italy on Saturday in a must-win game for both sides.

Today Nacer Barazite’s Netherlands side take on Moldova although their hopes of qualifying are very slim indeed.

In other news, Cardiff have reportedly rejected £5million offers for Aaron Ramsey from both Arsenal and Liverpool. Further proof if you needed it as to just how hard it is to buy British talent.

Paul Rodgers talks about how the Reserves have improved physically this season, whilst Gavin Hoyte praises the team spirit at the club.

After stating his intention to go out on loan next season, Norwich and Crystal Palace are both said to be interested in bringing him in on a temporary basis. Crystal Palace could be a good move for him as it’s not too far, but I’m sure about Norwich particularly after the lack of opportunities they handed to Kieran Gibbs during his time there.

 More tomorrow.
