Arsenal take Tawrik Jebril on trial

Posted by Jeorge Bird on May 20, 2008

With several players set to be released over the coming weeks and months, Arsenal’s scouts are trawling the globe in search of youngsters to join the club. The latest player to be offered a trial is Ghanian midfielder Tawrik Jebril. His trial begins in June and is set to last for two weeks. He is a highly rated player and Atletico Madrid have shown interest in him in recent weeks.

He is highly tipped for stardom in his native country, but Ghanian coach Claude Le Roy has said that he doesn’t want Jebril’s development to be rushed.

We have to be patient with the player but we have to know when it’s possible at a very early stage. When you are a skilful player, there’s no matter about the age.
What we need to be very careful about is his cardiovascular level and that’s part of our job, to follow the formation of the player and we are aware of that. The age is not the problem; the problem is the maturity of the player. And we need to follow that.
The issue is about following his potential and making sure he is brought in steadily

The Accra Hearts of Oak youngster is not the first player to go on trial at the club this summer. Goalkeeper Sean McDermott and Greek striker Samir Karelis both featured at the Atalanta Cup, whilst Francis Coquellin had his trial cut short due to injury.
