Oguzhan Özyakup features in Netherlands defeat
Posted in Uncategorized on May 4, 2008 by jeorge9Arsenal’s new signing Oghuzan Özyakup came on for the final three minutes as the Netherlands crashed to a 3-0 defeat against hosts Turkey in the opening day of the UEFA u-17 European Championship. Oghuzan, a recent acqusition from AZ Alkmaar in his native Holland, was on too late to turn the tide of the game but showed some good touches after replacing Bonevacia. Turkey took the lead through Karatas on 11 minutes and struck again through Albayrak to make it 2-0. A third goal in stoppage time by late substitute Demir secured the victory for the hosts.
Earlier in the day, striker Gilles Sunu was in action for France as they beat Ireland 2-1.
France are currently second in Group B behind Spain and face the holders in what is sure to be an enticing clash on Wednesday. The Netherlands, meanwhile, will be looking for a win from their next fixture as they currently lie bottom of Group A and take on Serbia on Wednesday.
