Arsenal’s new signing Oghuzan Özyakup came on for the final three minutes as the Netherlands crashed to a 3-0 defeat against hosts Turkey in the opening day of the UEFA u-17 European Championship. Oghuzan, a recent acqusition from AZ Alkmaar in his native Holland, was on too late to turn the tide of the game but showed some good touches after replacing Bonevacia. Turkey took the lead through Karatas on 11 minutes and struck again through Albayrak to make it 2-0. A third goal in stoppage time by late substitute Demir secured the victory for the hosts.

Earlier in the day, striker Gilles Sunu was in action for France as they beat Ireland 2-1.

France are currently second in Group B behind Spain and face the holders in what is sure to be an enticing clash on Wednesday. The Netherlands, meanwhile, will be looking for a win from their next fixture as they currently lie bottom of Group A and take on Serbia on Wednesday.

It has been an eventful day for Arsenal’s youngsters, and we will start with the loanees news. Jay Simpson ended his spell at Millwall yesterday with a defeat to Swindon and Carlos Vela is in action for Osasuna later tonight as they take on Real Madrid. Today, Mark Randall played 45 minutes as Burnley were thrashed 5-0 by Crystal Palace in the Championship. Mark will return to Arsenal tomorrow.

In other news, Kieran Gibbs, who recently returned from a loan spell at Norwich was an unused substitute as Arsenal beat Everton 1-0 at Emirates Stadium today. I went to the game and I must say, Armand Traore was fantastic and set up Bendtner for the goal.

In the opening day of the UEFA u-17 European Championships, Gilles Sunu played 58 minutes for France as they beat Ireland 2-1. He had one shot saved shortly before he was substituted but other than that was virtually non existent. Oghuzan Ozaykup is on the bench for the Netherlands against the hosts Turkey. That game has just kicked off.
