Sam Byles and Luke Freeman made substitute appearances for England u-16s yesterday as they lost 1-0 to USA. Despite the defeat, the young Lions still qualified for the final of the Montaigu tournament. Freeman replaced Liam Head on 65 minutes, and Byles came on for Mendez-Laing three minutes later. Emmanuel Frimpong, who scored the winner against Germany had a well-earned rest, whilst Oliver Nicholas missed out through an injury sustained in the opening game of the tournament against Japan.

Below is a look at how the Arsenal players have got on so far: (+ = sub appearances, goals scored in brackets)

Emmanuel Frimpong- 2 (1)

Oliver Nicholas- 1

Luke Freeman- 1+2 (1)

Sam Byles- 1+2

Having topped their group, England will now face the hosts France in the final. The details of that game are as follows:

Unrelated question, what is Sanchez Watt’s injury problem at the moment?
Respect to Clasford Stirling MBE and Broadwater Farm youths for suppying class players like Emmanuel Frimpong to Arsenal.

Sam Byles might be a good player, but if you are a football fan for club or country you have to say it as it is. At international level he is way, way out of his comfort zone. After watching all the games, Victory and Montaigu it is very clear to anyone watching that the right-back Keanu Marsh-Brown is a complete class above and beyond Sam Byles reach. Byles makes far to many errors and the back-line is only as strong as its weakest link and sorry to say that is Arsenal’s Sam Byles. I like others want to see the best boys play for my country when it costs so much to support them and you have to ask the question IS IT HIS CLUB BADGE THAT KEEPS HIM IN THE ENGLAND SQUAD AND IF SO WE ARE DISAPPOINTED TO HEAR THAT.
PLAYERS THAT STOOD OUT:- MARSH-BROWN; BAXTER; FRIMPONG; MENDEZ; FRYERS.

Oh, by the way CONGRATULATIONS TO MARSH-BROWN FOR BEING AWARDED THE BEST ENGLAND PLAYER AWARD.
