Loan watch: Weekend round-up

 It’s been an uneventful weekend for the loanees, with only Jay Simpson in action. However, Jay plays tomorrow as well when Millwall take on Luton at the Den tomorrow.

Vincent van den Berg- AGOVV Apeledorn 2 Go Ahead Eagles 0

Vincent didn’t feature as Go Ahead Eagles lost 2-0 to AGOVV Apeledorn in Holland. Both goals came in the space of six minutes. First Julius Wille struck on 26 minutes before Ter Heide doubled the home side’s advantage. Read a match report here.

Pedro- Castellon 1 Salamanca 0

Pedro didn’t feature as Salamanca lost 1-0 to Castellon. Arana scored the winner for the home side on 64 minutes.

Carlos Vela- Osasuna 0 Real Betis 1

Carlos didn’t feature because of a thigh problem. Ex-Liverpool player Mark Gonzalez scored the only goal of the game on 54 minutes and there was no response from the home side, who had Fran Javi Garcia sent off late on for a professional foul.

Mark Randall- Preston 2 Burnley 1

Mark didn’t feature as Burnley lost 2-1 to Preston North End. Tamas Priskin put the home side in front after five minutes, before James O’Connor equalised for the visitors. However, it wasn’t enough as Chris Brown struck on 54 minutes to give Preston all three points.

Kieran Gibbs- Norwich 5 Colchester 1

Kieran was left out as Norwich thrashed local rivals Colchester 5-1 at Carrow Road. A hat-trick from Jamie Cureton, added to goals from John Ostemobor and Dion Dublin gave the Canaries the victory. Kevin Lisbie found the net for Colchester just before half-time, but it turned out to be nothing but a mere consolation.

Jay Simpson- Oldham 1 Millwall 1

Jay played 90 minutes as Millwall drew 1-1 with Oldham. Bas Savage put Millwall ahead on 76 minutes, but it was cancelled out just three minutes later by a Leon Constantine strike.

Fran Merida- Real Sporting de Gijon 1 Real Sociedad 0

Fran didn’t feature in this match as Gijon won thanks to a Mate Bilic strike eight minutes from time.

International watch: Byles and Freeman in action as England reach final

England u-16 0 USA u-16 1

Sam Byles and Luke Freeman made substitute appearances for England u-16s yesterday as they lost 1-0 to USA. Despite the defeat, the young Lions still qualified for the final of the Montaigu tournament. Freeman replaced Liam Head on 65 minutes, and Byles came on for Mendez-Laing three minutes later. Emmanuel Frimpong, who scored the winner against Germany had a well-earned rest, whilst Oliver Nicholas missed out through an injury sustained in the opening game of the tournament against Japan.
