Jonas Rasmussen: A question of attitude?
Picture from foncy.co.uk
Arsenal clinched the signing of Jonas Rasmussen in 2007 after they fought off competition to strike a deal for the former Auxerre youngster. Since then, the young Dane has made his debut for the u-16s, in which he found the back of the net during an impressive performance. He has also made the step up to the under-18s this season but has found good form hard to come by. Maybe it’s because he’s stuck out on the right wing when he prefers to play a holding midfield role, but he just does not seem good enough for Arsenal at the moment. A couple of weak shots aside, he has rarely troubled the opposition’s goal in the matches he’s played so far and seems incredibly lightweight. There was a lot of interest in him when he joined, but now I am struggling to realise why he was so hyped up. Perhaps the pressure has got to him and has been displayed in his performances on the pitch, or he is struggling to settle, but he is not even half the player that some people make him out to be. Now, you may think that I am being harsh on Jonas, but the fact is that Arsenal is a very competitive club and that is why many of the current crop of youngsters won’t make it here. Their attitude is poor and they don’t really seem bothered so they’re not going to get anywhere. In Jonas’ case, if he loses the ball then he doesn’t try and win it back. He just stands there without a care in the world and waits for his teammates to do the work. Don’t get me wrong, Jonas is a very talented player when he wants to be, but he seriously needs to rectify his attitude if he’s going to get anywhere in football.

pretty strong views here.
If he is a holding midfielder do you expect him to be shooting and scoring???
It must be very hard for a young player to adjust but lets not forget that only the best of the best make it into professional football, and then only a handful of those will make it at Arsenal.
He is young, but if he does not seem bothered, there will be a handful of players who are, and will rise above him in the pecking order.
Many a promising player can be found playing Saturday league football for non league teams, that could have made a proper career for themselves.
he is good going forward, but he doesn’t use his ability enough anf it’s a common problem that there are lot of young players with a poor attitude, not just at arsenal but at other clubs as well. he is renowned in denmark for having an attitude problem, hopefully it won’t hold him back. Look at nick bendtner for example, he is confident but he is totally committed to playing football.
Hi Jeorge.
First of all thanks for the nice work!
Your hard work and the quality is amazing, and I especially like this site because you often are linking your sources. It might often be difficult to judge the quality of posts and gossip being writing on forums or blogs, when you are here in Denmark:-)
I have never been watching Jonas play so I can’t comment on his attitude on the pitch, but I have some comments about him. It’s based on what I am hearing and not what you guys is watching;-)
It seems to be harsh to describe Jonas as a holding midtfielder. He prefers to play either on the right or left flank or in a central offensive position. So I can’t believe he is stucked on the right wing.
I have interviewed Jonas recently to the website of Arsenal Denmark, and asked him about his life in Arsenal. He is settled well, and seems to be happy and he told about the friendship in the squad etc.
We also talked about the pressure and I don’t think he is bothered about that. He told about the importance of the mentality in games aswell in practice. He thinks that part also is importent, if you wants to break through the ranks in Arsenal. Also his manager in Hvidovre – his former club – has praised his mental strenght.
I have seen the picture of Jonas in that seems to be an Auxerre jersey, but i have never heard that he actually has been playing for the french club.
Keep up the nice work, mate.
