Jonas Rasmussen: A question of attitude?

Arsenal clinched the signing of Jonas Rasmussen in 2007 after they fought off competition to strike a deal for the former Auxerre youngster. Since then, the young Dane has made his debut for the u-16s, in which he found the back of the net during an impressive performance. He has also made the step up to the under-18s this season but has found good form hard to come by. Maybe it’s because he’s stuck out on the right wing when he prefers to play a holding midfield role, but he just does not seem good enough for Arsenal at the moment. A couple of weak shots aside, he has rarely troubled the opposition’s goal in the matches he’s played so far and seems incredibly lightweight. There was a lot of interest in him when he joined, but now I am struggling to realise why he was so hyped up. Perhaps the pressure has got to him and has been displayed in his performances on the pitch, or he is struggling to settle, but he is not even half the player that some people make him out to be. Now, you may think that I am being harsh on Jonas, but the fact is that Arsenal is a very competitive club and that is why many of the current crop of youngsters won’t make it here. Their attitude is poor and they don’t really seem bothered so they’re not going to get anywhere. In Jonas’ case, if he loses the ball then he doesn’t try and win it back. He just stands there without a care in the world and waits for his teammates to do the work. Don’t get me wrong, Jonas is a very talented player when he wants to be, but he seriously needs to rectify his attitude if he’s going to get anywhere in football.
