‘6+5′ quota to ruin Wenger’s plans?

Well, it’s international week and that same story has been brought up once again. Sepp Blatter has said that he will put an idea forward suggesting that teams must field at least six home-grown players for every game. Now I can see where he’s coming from as the likes of Bentley, Muamba and Sidwell would still be here if they didn’t have so many good players in front of them at the time, but this would mean that we would have to play Theo Walcott every week. Now that’s not even worth thinking about. But seriously though, imagine if we had to play six homegrown players in our starting XI right now? Well, you wouldn’t be hearing much of that ‘ We are top of the League’ chant, that’s for sure.

    Oh for some knowledge,

Cesc, Clichy, Troare, Senderos, Diaby, all qualify as homegrown.

    yawn.

Don’t think I wuld be paying over £1000.00 for a season ticket to watch a sub standard league let alone a sub standard side.Reckon there would be many like me . Which would impact on the money not only obtained from the gate but also from the television companies.

Blatter can pis of to switzerland. He is living in a era of open borders where any idea to impose quota will be called trade restrictions. he is living in cloud cuckoo land.

does anybody know what would constitute the definition of ‘homegrown’, because I know it wouldn’t only be English players. I understand that players like clichy and fabregas would qualify under this defintion. Can anybody list what our lineup would look like if this rule were adopted today?

  5. Arsenal Fan Says:

If it’s just homegrown there is a big chance that for example Fabregas, Denilson, Song, Djourou, Bendtner, Clichy, Traore would count. Outside the obvious Hoyte and Walcott.

  6. AB Says:

FIFA has no jurisdiction in these matters. So they can propose what they want, it will have no effect on the Premier League.

The worst that could happen is that UEFA tries to mandate such a rule for the Champions League - and even that would require the approval of all the leading European clubs. Not only Arsenal, but many other big clubs too, would surely veto such a plan.

Further still, even if UEFA were successful with such a Champions League quota, Arsenal and others would have a very good case before European courts against such discrimination.

Blatter says a lot of things…

  7. obomba Says:

“UEFA has defined a home-grown player as a ‘locally trained player…who has been registered for three seasons/years with the club between the ages of 15 and 21’.

Djorou, Bendter, Eboue, Fabregas, Denilson, Song, Djourou, Bendtner, Clichy, Traore, Hoyte, Walcott, Gilbert, Randall

  8. Some random Gooner ;) Says:

I honestly doubt it will happen, because of the Bosman-ruling and general EU regulations.
