Despite taking some time to settle during his first season with the Gunners, Rui Fonte is now ready to set the world alight. The Portuguese youngster joined Arsenal from Sporting Lisbon in the summer of 2006 and hit the bar on his reserve debut against Fulham at Underhill. However, he failed to score a goal at that level last season. Although, this season has seen a massive improvement. As Jay Simpson joined Millwall on loan, Rui was given his chance and scored in the last reserve match against Derby. He is also a regular on the scoresheet for the u-18s side. A tricky, diminuitive player, Rui’s style of play is easy on the eye and he blends perfectly with his team-mates on the pitch. Having signed professional in the summer, he will be looking to make the Carling Cup squad next term.
