More on: Rhys Murphy

A natural finisher, Rhys had an outstanding campaign for the u-18s last season scoring 17 goals in 21 games. He even made his reserve debut against Chelsea at Underhill whilst still a schoolboy. An England u-17 international, Rhys represented the Three Lions in the summer at the World Cup for that age group, alongside his Arsenal team-mates Henri Lansbury and Gavin Hoyte. He returned to Arsenal and signed a scholarship deal in the summer and was named on the bench for the Emirates Cup. He started the season out injured but returned and scored in two successive matches for the u-18s in September. However, injury got the better of him once more and he has been restricted to just one appearance for the Reserves this season, as a sub against Birmingham. He will be looking for more chances in the new year, especially with the injury to Barazite, although he has Gilles Sunu to contend with. He will also be looking to play in the FA Youth Cup, particularly after his stunning finish in the Semi-Final of last season’s competition at Old Trafford.

Who do you think is better?
    Sunu or Murphy?
Someone said that Wenger prefers Sunu because he putted him on the bench against Inter in the pre-season and not Murphy, or something like that!

    Merry christmas to you too.

Rhys Murphy was on the bench against Inter in the Emirates Cup but Wenger reportedly wanted to play Sunu instead but couldn’t because he didn’t have a work permit. I haven’t seen much of Sunu but I can tell that he is a more skilful and more versatile player than Murphy, although Murphy is more of an Alan Shearer type, scoring goals all the time no matter how classy the finish is.

    Alright!
Sunu was tagged as the ‘new’ henry by his former club
But it’s gonna be difficult for both to break trough because we have already got alot of great strikers with a long term future..

Yeah sunu is a bit like henry and i think murphy is a little bit like david bentley, but we all know what happened with him.

Do you mean quality wise or attitude wise?
Because imo if Bentley stayed here wouldn’t suprise me if he was a regular in the first-team now!

I mean quality wise because they can both score the odd wonder-goal but can score scruffy goals too. There’s nothing wrong with Murphy’s attitude so hopefully he won’t go down the same path as Bentley
