More on: Rhys Murphy

A natural finisher, Rhys had an outstanding campaign for the u-18s last season scoring 17 goals in 21 games. He even made his reserve debut against Chelsea at Underhill whilst still a schoolboy. An England u-17 international, Rhys represented the Three Lions in the summer at the World Cup for that age group, alongside his Arsenal team-mates Henri Lansbury and Gavin Hoyte. He returned to Arsenal and signed a scholarship deal in the summer and was named on the bench for the Emirates Cup. He started the season out injured but returned and scored in two successive matches for the u-18s in September. However, injury got the better of him once more and he has been restricted to just one appearance for the Reserves this season, as a sub against Birmingham. He will be looking for more chances in the new year, especially with the injury to Barazite, although he has Gilles Sunu to contend with. He will also be looking to play in the FA Youth Cup, particularly after his stunning finish in the Semi-Final of last season’s competition at Old Trafford.
