Where does Kerrea Gilbert’s future lie?

With only nine days left until the start of the transfer window, full-back Kerrea Gilbert is set to return from Southend on loan. However, things did not go according to plan for Gilbert whilst he was at the Shrimpers. He started off the season well enough, with a couple of decent performances at right-back. However, elation soon turned into frustration for young Gilbert as a host of injuries, suspensions and fallouts with coaches amongst other things meant that his chances were always going to be limited. It is perhaps ironic that the only reason so many people are concerned about his progress is due to the whole raft of injuries and suspensions encountered by the Arsenal defence in the 2005/06 season that enabled Kerrea to play many games and he impressed. His most telling contribution by far was the assist for Thierry Henry at Highbury in the Carling Cup semi final of that season. Since then, he had a topsy-turvy loan spell at Cardiff last season and this season has just been a nightmare for him. So where does his future lie? Well, put it this way, if he hasn’t joined another club by January 31 I will be very suprised to say the least.
